Received: January 11, 2017 Revised: March 31, 2017 Accepted: April 01, 2017 Abstract: Background: Continuous cardiovascular monitoring as part of management of high-risk surgical patients is widely practiced, however the role of continuous monitoring as part of routine management in low-risk surgical patients is unclear. Our aim was to investigate haemodynamic and Bispectral Index (BIS) changes in healthy patients undergoing surgery following induction of anaesthesia with propofol using a continuous non-invasive blood pressure device (LiDCO rapidTM). We sought to obtain detailed monitoring of cardiovascular parameters from the pre-induction stage.

Comparison of continuous non-invasive finger arterial pressure monitoring with conventional intermittent automated arm arterial pressure measurement in patients under general anaesthesia.
BACKGROUND For a majority of patients undergoing anaesthesia for general surgery, mean arterial pressure (MAP) is only measured intermittently by arm cuff oscillometry (MAPiNIAP). In contrast, the Nexfin(®) device provides continuous non-invasive measurement of MAP (MAPcNIAP) using a finger cuff. We explored the agreement of MAPcNIAP and MAPiNIAP with the gold standard: continuous invasive MAP ...

Introduction: The present study aimed to correlate renal oximetry near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) values with conventional non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection of acute kidney injury (AKI) in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Accordingly, renal NIRS can be employed as a trending device for the prevention of AKI developmen...
متن کاملComparison of S-(+)-ketamine- with sufentanil-based anaesthesia for elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery: effect on troponin T levels.
BACKGROUND S-(+)-ketamine anaesthesia carries potential benefits for the cardiovascularly compromised patient. However, the use of S-(+)-ketamine in ischaemic coronary artery disease is controversial. In a prospective, randomized, clinical trial, we have investigated whether an S-(+)-ketamine-based anaesthetic protocol leads to increased cardiac troponin T levels (cTnT) after coronary artery by...
متن کاملComparison of Haemodynamic Responses to Laryngeal Mask Airway Insertion and Laryngoscopy with Endotracheal Intubation in Adults Undergoing Elective Surgery at Muhimbili
Background Airway management is of utmost importance during delivery of general anaesthesia. Traditionally, laryngoscopy and endotracheal tube (ETT) insertion has been the mainstay in providing adequate airway management and delivering anaesthesia. The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) offers a much less invasive way of maintaining the airway as it does not pass through the glottis but is placed over...
متن کاملEffect of premedication on etomidate anaesthesia.
The effect of premedication upon the induction of anaesthesia with etomidate was studied in 74 adult patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery. Premedication with fentanyl plus atropine or with diazepam plus atropine decreased the frequency of involuntary muscle movements without modifying the pattern of the circulatory effects of etomidate, although fentanyl increased the frequency of a...
